If You Find Wildlife in Trouble
Observe Safely
Keep your distance and watch for at least 30 minutes. Many young animals are not orphaned and the parent is nearby.
Do Not Feed
Wrong foods can cause severe harm. Avoid milk, bread or human food entirely.
Call a Permitted Rehabber
Reach out to your state listed wildlife rehabilitator. In Mississippi, contact MDWFP for the official list.
Contain Carefully
If a rehabber instructs you to contain the animal, use a ventilated box with a soft towel and keep it warm, dark and quiet.
